CHIPS -Children’s Integrated Playschemes, is a small local charity. We offer play and social opportunities to children aged 3-19 years, who live within the East Herts District Council area and the Borough of Broxbourne. Non disabled brothers and sisters are strongly encouraged to attend as we believe that all children should play together, regardless of their needs.
For children living in the Borough of Broxbourne, we run Saturday clubs based in Cheshunt and Hoddesdon. These clubs run 3 out of 4 Saturdays per month (term time), 10.00am-12.30 pm. Sessions are allocated at the start of each term, and are shared out amongst the children. We aim to offer about 6 sessions per term. The cost is £5 per session, per family.
In the summer, we run day playschemes (10.00am-3.30 pm) for 3 weeks in the same areas. Again places are shared out so the number of days you receive depends on demand (usually 6-8 days over the three weeks). Day fees are £8.00 for the first child with additional needs and £4.00 for siblings.
Easter and Christmas holidays
We run day playschemes for 2/3 days during the Easter and Christmas
holidays. Details as above.
If payment of membership or session fees is a problem, due to low family income, we are always willing to discuss a reduced rate.
Activities at the schemes
Our schemes offer a wide range of activities; art / craft, construction, home corner, outside play, books, puzzles, games to name a few. Children have free choice, and are encouraged to try new activities. During the summer schemes, we arrange outings –swimming, visit to local farm and have entertainers come into the schemes –African drumming, drama workshops, artist, and sports coaches.
We have a high staff /volunteer to child ratio. All staff have relevant qualifications and /or experience. We have a large number of volunteers aged from 12 years who help at the schemes. One to one support is available for those children who need it.
Other Groups run by CHIPS
We have a parent’s support group-Chatts, which meets every 3rd Thursday of the month, during term time, in Hertford. This is an informal, friendly group, sharing information and exchanging ideas. If you would like to attend, please ask for further information.
Kidzone is a group for the brothers and sisters. We arrange a fun activity –i.e. cinema, pantomime, swimming parties, arts and crafts ,usually once a month, during term time.
